With the advent of electricity, the need to prevent current leakage brought about the invention of a variety of electrical insulators used to keep wires apart. These examples are on display at the Eagle Hostorical Museum in Eagle Wisconsin.

  • Great explanation and very informative. The glass power transmission insulators are still manufactured in China, and many power insulators are currently made using a plastic material. Also, oddly there was a rams horn insulator that was made of metal that was used on the transcontinental railroad in the 1860's. The trolley system in San Fransisco used wooden insulators.
