This is an Anti-War video I made using footage from the 1974 movie "Hearts and Minds". The movie is an Academy Award winning documentary about the Vietnam War directed by Peter Davis. During his acceptance of the Oscar award, co-producer Bert Schneider said, "It's ironic that we're here at a time just before Vietnam is about to be liberated" and then read a "Greetings of Friendship to all American People" from the North Vietnamese government. Frank Sinatra retaliated later by reading a letter from Bob Hope, another presenter on the show, "The academy is saying, 'We are not responsible for any political references made on the program, and we are sorry they had to take place this evening.'"

The following is from Judith Butler's Precarious Life: The Powers of Mourning and Violence.

"I argue that a national melancholia, understood as a disavowed mourning, follows upon the erasure from public representations of the names, images, and narratives of those the US has killed. On the other hand, the US's own losses are consecrated in public obituaries that constitute so many acts of nation-building. Some lives are grievable, and others are not; the differential allocation of grievability that decides what kind of subject is and must be grieved, and which kind of subject must not, operates to produce and maintain certain exclusionary conceptions of who is normatively human: what counts as a livable life and a grievable death?" • hey grant how are you? youtube had removed my video "the courage and strugge of the vietnamese people". I don't think my video had violated anything did it? why are they censoring my video?

  • Very thought provoking video...

  • Fearsome video. Still relevant. Will Obama actually be able to change much?

  • War is big business and on the long-term

the industry gets more consumers and slaves

    same doctrine Law's Agenda's ...Capitalism...

This system is not for the people ... lets change that

    peace

  • Worst part is that it's still relevant -- we have learned nothing. And most people here in the US just don't even care. So so so so so so sad!!! There are too many people suffering.... still. *tear*

  • This is from the "documentary" "Hearts and Minds." When the leftists running the 1974 Oscars gave it the award for best documentary, the Communists were only weeks away from conquering and enslaving all of South Vietnam. Producer Bert Schneider in his acceptance speech said that Vietnam was on the verge of being "liberated" and that he received a letter of thanks from North Vietnam to those in Hollywood who helped in the Commmunist conquest. In other words, this of course was Red propaganda.

  • then why don't you stop complaining and put your money where your mouth is. America has done much harm to Viet Nam and you are accusing "Vietnamese" for destroying our beloved country? don't let the AMERICAN money launder you away from your ethnicity or do you consider yourself "AMERICAN" now?

  • we see the samething happening in Iraq God bless the US government
