  • They were a great and cool band. They were our main rivals at the time (The Trees). The Starfires and us were the only bands in the region at the time that rejected the "show band" mold and instead embraced the music, look and lifestyle of the counter culture.

  • It wasn't just about the music, it was also about the cars. Steve Ellis had all the cars every red-blooded guy could ask for. Mostly gold, as in a gold Toronado, gold Jag XKE, gold duece coupe. He was someone I aspired to when I was in high school at PHS. Even had a garage band that played mostly his music.

  • I was just old enough to see these guys and they are what did it for me to want to go out and get a guitar and learn how to play and start a band and I am still going.

Their album is my most prized record. Last year I finally tracked down a 1967 Cherry Red Guild Starfire IV guitar like they used to play as I always wanted one, and I love to sit down and play their tunes on it.

  • I grew up in pipestone mn and I do remember these guys. I was to young at that time to go to see them but I know that they were very could have big if not for the lose of steve
