@ESponge2000 well voting is the only way we can change the government, we can't fire them. it seems like the public is getting dumber everday. so in about 15 to 20 years the government will be able to take over the USA and turn it into a communist state that is what the democrats are going for, they want a union that is governed by the government.

The American people can't put the right 535 people into Congres and the Senate when the MEDIA and the lack of campaign finance reform result in only 2 choices for leaders every election that are known to the people. The problem is we need to fix the system desperately before it's too late and the future of citizens are too dumb and educated ever after to take control.

There's good I read on someone's blog a few days ago: "Our votes have very little impact, otherwise voting would be illegal."

@travis8683 no i want a flat 8 year term for congress just like the president. these people who go tot washington to make a living out of being in congress have got to go. they make their money out of being bought off. and maybe a new person would not be bought off to easy

@rosemarie443 yeah i would agree: maximum of 6 consecutive house terms (12 years) AND maximum of 2 senate terms (12 years). but not necessarily life term limited. so you would have to sit 1 term out to allow for competition. this would also allow voters to re-instate (if they wish) a popular congressman/senator after their limits are up

@travis8683 this is whyi i think that everybody in congress should only be able to serve 8 years just like the president.

And we have staggared elections: instead of the WHOLE congress up (house and senate) only a portion on senate seats are up every term. this is good/bad. In UK they have a snap election=clean house. all seats and PM. and there is no 3 month lame duck "smell the roses" Your ass is out the next day.

the founders made us a presidential system because it is ineffective, slow, and cumbersome. As opposed to the British Parliamentary system: 1 house (i dont count Lords) with clear rules. Our system has crazy rules: the filibuster. 2/3 majorities for issues. and a majority is not enough nowadays. And throw judicial "review" in there and executive orders=its a cluster F---.

And as conservative as I am, we still must remember: the PEOPLE chose congress/senate/pres. we dont always speak clearly. and frankly I do get tired of people blaming congress. WE stick 535 folks with different ideas in a room and say "no clear majorities...work it out", and then WE blame THEM. No. The buck stops here: We the People.

@rosemarie443 That I can agree with. But the sideline issues: muslim connection, the citizenship issue...they cloud the big picture. Americans are hurting. We need to keep our heads clear and in the game if we want a Republican victory.

@travis8683 before you can judge a man by his works, you have to look into his past and what his ideas are for the future. and judge him as a man. yu have to figure out if he wants to help people or not. i am not personally attacking Obama, i am just saying that he is not presidental material, and he has proven that in the last 3 years. now unless the republicans and come up with some other canadites, Obama will be re elected, and then he really will send us down the river
