Hannie Schaft Tribute
Nederland/English

Kijk in hoge kwaliteit!

Watch in high quality

A short film in honour of the communist resistance hero in the struggle against fascism in the Netherlands, Hannie Schaft.

Hannie Schaft was an active resistance fighter in the Second World War. As a member of the Communist Party of the Netherlands (CPN) she took great risk in delivering the illegal communist newspaper De Waarheid (The Truth). Also she took part in armed resistance that attacked offices of the occupier and collaborators. And the liquidation of fascists.

She was known among the invaders as the girl with Red hair. To hid here identity she dyed her hair black. But she was caught with de Waarheid and arrested. Soon she was recognized for who she was, das Mädchen mit den roten Haaren.

Three weeks before the end of the war on April the 17th Hannie was brought to the dunes in Bloemendaal to be shot. The first bullet bounced of her head, on which she replied "I can shoot better".

The Communist resistance was also in contact with England during the war. To keep unity in the resistance as a whole. They also fulfilled missions for England to make the occupier it very difficult in the Netherlands. But towards the end of the war the missions became more risky and with that also sometimes unnecessary or misinformation. Because of which many communists died. Later evidences were found that shows the existence of a policy to eliminate the Communist Treat for post-War Holland. The government in exile probably even went so far that they directly gave positions of communist groups to the fascists.

It is thought that Hannie Schaft was also a victim of that anticommunist policy.

Into present times, she is a rolmodel for Dutch communists. Especially young communists.

  • yea shame we dont :( long live socialism

  • The Dutch love free stuff^^

  • We don't sell the paper when we have a protest or something. We have suscribers who get it via post. That way we have enough finances to have a large amount of papers extra for handing out.

No the people who didn't accept it only shaked their head when they saw Communist Party on it or said no thx.

  • Did you sell the paper or gave it out for free? Did the people who refused to take the paper abused you with some bad language words or agressive statements?

  • I forgive you Comrade;)
