Marillion cancelled the Misplaced Childhood tour after Fish picked up a throat infection. I was at the Misplaced Marquee gig when they explained the reasons behind the decision. The British tour was moved from September to January the following year.
The TOTP video was a result of the decision to postpone the tour and Fish's take on resting his voice.
This has occured several times since 1985 and haunts Fish to this day.

All wrong I'm afraid.
Fish refused to sing. He had to cancel gigs to do this tv appearance, where he would not even be singing live...only miming... he was so angry at lettign fans down that he refused even to mime, instead pointed at the lyric board...

i watched this episode of top of the pops and the reason as expained by the dj who i think was steve wright is that he had a throat infection

That's right. They had to cancel a tour and we had tickets for Mancheter. We were gutted but this cheered us up a bit.

This has to be quite possibly the worst 'miming' on TOTP ever, but it's also one of the greatest and most memorable TOTP performanes due to Fish's brilliant 'boards' gag ! Great song too, radio stations always play Kayleigh and forget this one !
