@myid9876543 Thanks! I did some more research and found it out myself too. I suspected as much since I watch a lot of racing and they alo use straight cut gears, that's why the gearboxes whine so much.

@snviper I don't know about the setup here, but the reason cars whine is that the normal forward gears are helical cut (see wikipedia: helical gears) and the reverse gears are straight cut (see wikipedia: straight-cut gears) for easier shifting into reverse. Helical gears are quiet under operation, thus they're used for the gears people use most.

Is the chain on the reverse gear the same on cars and the reason they "whine" when in reverse?
