  • This race along with other IRL-Indy-500 IMHO was a total Ruin of the glorious Indy-500. Tony has failed the Indy-500 glory miserably. I was crying that none of the great indy-500 winners and veterans raced there. 1996 Indy-500 really hurt me so bad. Did fans at the indy'96 asked, "Where's little Al, where's Mario's son, where's Emmo, where's Rahal, where's the greats of indy, where's the good excitement since 1995?" All of them instead run the stricken U.S. 500.

  • ya and then half the field crashes on a pace lap in the u.s. 500.

  • @indyfan2 Say what you want about Tony, but a LOT of blame lies with Penske and the other owners involved in the split as well.

  • @indyfan2 Tony George liberated Indy from the money guys and gave it back to the racers. Penske et al have no right to compete at the 500; all they did was bankrupt the series. Fans at the 1996 500 didn't ask where Little Al was, they enjoyed seeing some new faces finally be able to compete on a sane playing field.

  • @poko111 real maybe... as in it actually happened... but lets be honest... it was a B race at best...

  • Danny Sullivan sucked as an analyst. I think everyone can agree on that, too.

  • ALESSANDRO. 1 "L" please!

  • @AutoRockinRacing94 That's true, the way that the car went up into the fence like that and got upside down.

  • The wreck reminds me to Mike Conway's wreck on Sunday

  • Lo increible a pesar del aparatoso accidente es que los 3 terminaron del cuarto al sexto lugar, claro que si estuviesen ahi los equipos y pilotos top del CART, otra historia hubiera pasado.

  • I'm sure we can all agree on 1 thing: whether you consider the '96 500 a real Indy 500 (& I do), it was definitely weak compared to past Indys, & Lazier would've been lucky to finish in the top 10 if the CART guys had stayed.

Anyway, I would DEFINITELY take the '96 race compared to what Indy is today; a ONE engine, ONE chassis spec series -- when the IRL introduced its 1st formula in '97 they allowed 2 engines & 2 chassis, so you could have as many as four different car & engine combinations.

  • oh thx man
