I was talking about deaths in Gran Prix vs other forms of motorsport, all involving contacts, and explosions.

And besides there is the turn in the American Gran Prix, at Indianapolis, the turn to come onto the straight. Was lethal! Not literally of course, but if the drivers misjudged the turn, they could very easily crash, at extremely high speeds. Into the stands.

But as i say, there has been an evolution to get to the level of safety, in car design. As well as track design,

@rorrt I was talking about deaths, inevitably when a driver on an oval hits a wall\catch fencing at 200mph, the sheer forces involved will drastically increase the chance of fatal injury, versus the huge run offs of sanitised F1 circuits... regardless of the chassis.

Indy recently introduced a new safety cell + covered back wheels, and SAFER barriers were a big deal when they were introduced too...not sure on Nascar rules but since those are closed cockpit it's inherently less dangerous.

But even if a gran prix had a crash at 200mph+ it wouldnt burst into flames!

The fuel tank is surrounded in kevlar, and carbon fibre. They have done thousands and thousands of tests on the vulnerability of these tanks.

In NASCAR, and Indy, or Champ. They havent got that level of safety...

Don't get me wrong, i love an element of danger...But not where you see a shunt and the petrol tank explodes as it did all the time in the 60s and 70s.
