climing to the top of the fort was one of the most terrifying experiences of my life. those metal walkways areprocarious to say the least ! but my stay at the Kandalama Hotel near Dambulla blew my breath away, the birds of prey and monkeys were awsome and there were even bats flying round the bar while we were having an evening drink, can't wait to go back !

Unfortunately nowadays that area is dangerous; the Sri Lankan Army is everywhere, and bombs attacks are not infrequent.
Look in the video that fantastic beach, a paradise (from 1:51 to 2:30 mins)

We stayed at French Garden, in Uppuveli (2 km north Trinco). I strongly recommend this fantastic "hotel" on the beach.. after tsunami they are still working to fix, but it is beautiful: huge white beach, soft and warm ocean, few people. We paid the ridiculous amount of 45 euros /person for a week (all incl!!!).

Anyway my favourite place is Uppuveli beach.
