when I was a kid we had a version of this by an itailian singer? Renato somebody i think. On a purple Capitol 45. Anyone any ideas? Would have been late '50's early '60's.

Yeah, Nothing blew my mind like seeing Andy Griffith being utterly evil!

Carl, it's a great song, and a great movie. I like how Lonesome Rhodes composes the song on the fly early in the film, in jail.

This song was featured prominently in the movie a Face in the Crowd, which starred Andy Griffith. The song is sung in the scene where Griffith sees a young Lee Remick who is twirling her baton to this song in a contest.

I always wondered if the version by Andy Griffith was released as an actual record, as a promo for the film "A Face In The Crowd" - because the version heard on the soundtrack in the movie is really good enough for that to have happened.
