It wouldn't be hard to tell the difference at all if you know what you're doing. Gotta love the ignorant buyer, but unfortunately when fakes flood the market it's bad news for everyone, however it does keep things interesting.

I would have to be there to look at a variety of factors as well as a chemical analysis of the paint and carbon dating.
It is impossible to make a perfect replica, but they don't have to be perfect, just good enough to trick an ignorant buyer.

so is the density of the wheat field, its flatness, the dark foreground...and the overall scale--although you only notice that because they're side-by-side.
