Dan Boul explains Lil' Elvis.

This is something Sam Austin wrote in a reply that explains a little:

It will officially be released at Winter NAMM in January. It comes in at a robust 12 watts running 2 EL-84's, 3 ECC-83's and a 6CA4 rectifier. The controls are volume, tone, speed and intensity (for the trem) an FX loop and our new Master Voltage knob that brings it down to about 2 watts. It will come in a small head and small 112 combo. It will sell for less than the rest of the 65 line because it's an easier build. We did not cut any corners. We're still using Mercury transformers, Sozo caps etc...

As a side note ... Sam left out that the amp has a foot switchable trem and bump (which is sort of like a boost).

  • Sounds great. One question though. Didn't you use Dana Hall's VVR2 in that amp for your "power scaling" feature? You should give him credit for his great discovery.

  • This question came up in a forum post and by the time I talked to Dan that post had been moved.

Dan said yes ... that the design for the master voltage is indeed that of Dan Hall but 65 implements it a little differently and there are some component changes but yes, the design credit should go to Dana Hall. It works great and is the first form of "attenuation" that I have ever liked.

  • But does the amp have vocabulary? ;)

  • Looking forward to trying one - I'm a little worried 12w isn't going to cut it live. I wish it had 2x the output and a switch to cut it back to 12.

  • should have an alarm that, when someone tries to grab it, calls out "Lil Elvis has left the building"!

  • Why is this video not loading??

  • My lord what a killer idea, a 12 watt 65 Amp! 65 is making some of the best, if not THE best amps on the market right now. If anyone gets a chance to plug into one go for it, youll love it. True Tone Music here in Santa Monica carries them, I hope to see the Lil Elvis there soon.

  • Speaking of "simple surgery," I hope your finger is healing Dan.

  • Love It!
