This is one of the chamber pieces composed by Hong Kong composer Man-Ching Donald Yu. The piano part was performed by the composer himself.
The music describes different types of rain in nature including very light rain, light rain, moderate rain, heavy rain, very heavy rain, as well as extreme rain. Those types of rain in nature, like mood, vary from time to time. Each section in the music corresponds to each particular type of rain by means of varying textural elements, registers and densities of musical materials.
The music begins with an energetic introduction announced by the piano solo. This cadenza-like section depicts a stormy weather signalling a rain event would follow. In the central section, pointillistic textural elements saturate and this effectively contrasts the density of materials during the course of the whole piece. This section represents very light rain. An energetic closing section ends the piece in a dramatic manner in which very heavy rain and extreme rain take place. The form of the piece is in a modified arc-form in which the central section is articulated by contrasted sparse musical density.
