This short film ended up being a sketch for a yet, potentially longer piece. This journey travels from Chicago through the midwest to Oklahoma, and then up to the northwest of Oregon. Director Melinda Fries would handle the camera operations, while I would serve as sound recordist. I would also make the first pass edit and assembled the sound elements for the final edit.

  • wow really old video

  • Terrifi sound !

  • Your lucky you got out I know there are tons of people who get locked in them and no one finds them for months or years after they have been in there. That's why you never go into a box car. Its always better to be in a open top car or bucket car then a box car. Tip on jamming the box car doors is grab a railroad spike and stick it in the bottoms of each door jam.

  • i know this sounds noobish, but how do you spike the boxcars. i dont ride them, cause i got locked in for 3 hours once, and well, you can imagine. and where would i get a scanner? i been hopping for months and never came across another 'bo.

    love and peace

  • live by the scanner

  • this is a good train video kudos, scanner shit also rocks ass. i like the view from the boxcar, those always make me nervous. im kinda paranoid of the doors going over the spike and closing on me. oh and to the guy at the bottom ''the1kk'' it;s the USA brother.. (N)

    up the rail punx!!

  • I've been on those rails! Not on a freight train of course! but on an Amtrack. I've taken the train from Portland (where i live) to Denver and back twice.

  • Nice video.

    Be smart,be safe

    and happy trails!

    Cheers!

  • Holly cow, a lot of that footage was from around where I was from along the UP line through the Blue Mountains. I have seen that area by car a lot, never by train.

    Very nice.
