I think Saruman's staff is made of metal. Saruman turned into Count Dooku for a second and used the force to take Gandalf's staff. Gandalf should've turned into Magneto and take Sarumans

They really did. Ian Mckellen and Christopher Lee did the stunts. It must have been funny, making two legendary actors fall all over the place.

@smilepublications but keep in mind, if any of the elves had a palantir then Sauron would have known what was going on in Lorien or in Rivendell. Each palantir can connect to the others. And we know that some of them where lost.
