Mr. Invincible #15: Road Rage

"Mr. Invincible #15 - Road Rage" was the first Mr. Invincible spot produced solely for KOH, and had nothing whatsoever to do with the Nevada Highway Patrol. And I think you can definitely tell that our creative juices had been rejuvenated a bit by that newfound freedom when we produced this spot.

The concept of "road rage" had become all the rage -pardon the pun- when we went into the studio with this idea in the summer of 1998. (We always thought that the idea of "road rage" being a real problem was, well, a bit silly; after all, when you get right down to it, doesn't the idea of "road rage" just boil down to bad manners, which have always been around?) However, mass media had devoted enough time to the road rage "crisis" that we felt it was an appropriate subject for a traffic safety message, even though we didn't quite fully agree with the hype.

Anyway, as I said before, you can tell we were glad to be back in the studio and fighting the good fight with this one. I always that thought that the idea of Mr. Invincible eager to get home because he didn't want to miss the "National Mega Wrestling Demolition Derby Wet T-Shirt Splatterfest Championships" on pay-per-view was a concept the Bloom County comic strip would have been proud of. On a technical note, I was always proud that the "bleeps" over Mr. Invincible's profanity-laced tirade were mixed in "live", in that they weren't added later (the bleeps were created by deliberately inducing "feedback" on a reel-to-reel tape machine; God do I miss some of the old-school tricks we had to resort to before digital technology made everything easy.)
