And in a wild contest in Birmingham, Darrion Holden of Woodlawn helped the Colonels (2-1) post a 40-31 win over Parker with 343 yards passing and four touchdowns on a 12-of-17 performance. He also rushed for 108 yards on 11 carries and a fifth TD.

Grissom High School volleyball coach Tanya Wigley Broadway fell in love with the sport of volleyball while earning All-State honors for Coach Sandy Hunter at Pleasant Valley High School.
Broadway turned that passion into a full-fledged career as she followed her parents into education as a teacher. Broadway began her fabled head-coaching career at Grissom in 1996 following legend Gloria Birmingham who compiled an 848-221 record for the Lady Tigers from 1971-1995. Broadway started the 2011 season with 960 wins. Her team was 21-7 after last week's matches and is now just 19 victories away from joining a very elite club of coaches -- the 1,000 win club.
At the current pace, she should be looking at Number 1,000 within the next three weeks.
More important than all the wins, however, is Broadway's commitment to education-based athletics. Her teams exemplify what good sportsmanship is all about.
The state's career wins leader is retired Hazel Green Coach Glenda Wright, who holds the state and Madison County recodwith 1,303 winsfrom 1981-2008. Becky Dickinson, who retired in 1999 after compiling a 1,273-130 record at McGill-Toolen in Mobile. Other volleyball coaches who members of the 1,000 win club are Tammy Richardson, who coached at Pelham and Oak Mountain, current Bayside Academy Coach Ann Schilling and Branda Mayes of Muscle Shoals. Mayes was the most recent addition to the club, winning her 1,000th match late last season.
Good Hope Coach Rosemary Brown recorded her 800th win for the Raiders earlier this month. She started the season at 789-349 for her career.
