i have stumbled on this myself- i also exsclusively use power pro braid. the single i lost fish because it 'slipped' ,so i tried going the second time through as youve described and problem solved!!! anyone looking to catch big fish outa heavy cover- stumps ect should concider this knot and line. i caught a 60lb flathead catfish using 30lb powerpro braid and i had to tear him out of a log jam- mono would have never got him out!!!!

@smcdonald86 I guess the rest of us are just being too nice about it. It would have been nice for the camera person to actually show you tieing the knot.
-
I must agree, very nice knot since I know the poly knot, but if I didn't I'd have to say it was a bit hard to see. All around nice video though. Thanks

Are you familiar with the "power knot?" I wanna say Joe Bucher invented it. It's a version of the palomar knot, but you tie an angler's knot (rather than an overhand knot, as in the single palomar) with the line doubled over and put the hook through the loop. It seems to be extremely solid.

Dude knows what he's talking about, double palomar rules...well when it comes to braid... it gives you break strength right at the rated test.
There are other knots which would actually give you above your rated strength but they are complicated. Double Pal...real easy.

This sounds like an obvious question... but I'd assume that for a triple palomar knot you simply slip that loop around 3 times instead of 2 and do everything else the same way? I don't see any videos for a triple palomar and have heard it's an ideal knot for the application I'll be doing shortly. I'll be ice fishing using 30# braided nylon with a teflon coating on it. I want to use a TP to tie it to the swivel.

agreed very strong, been using it for 20 years.

are you pulling both the strings?
-
whenever I try to tie a palomar knot, it seems at the part where you pass the loop through the hook is where I get messed up. I try to pull it tight and it all comes off. I use the clinch knot cause its simple but I knot the palomar is better than the clinch but I can't tie it right! Anyone have any tips for me?
-
do u think thats a stronger knot then a snell knot for bait fishing
-
its a very sinple knot dude,,double your line go in it 2 times ,,then open go threw hook or swivel,,,and tightin up,,,thats it man,,,
-
I can see just fine...there's the HQ option too which makes it even clearer...
-
dude, i sicerely appreciate the fact that your here teaching being necesarry things in life, but you might want to show us in a more clear way than from a few feet wearing a white t-shirt. suprisingly the best part was when the shadow was against your shirt. all due respect and i thank you.

yo steve o . iam in florida most of these ponds have tilapia in them.arent they a invasive species.all they do is eat and shit.and ruin all the bass beds.and the alge grows like crazy.whats up with that man?

Thats what i like to hear!
Cheers!
You don't seem to have any problem at all pulling the knot tight, but I always get a loop that won't pull down into the knot. I've tried to tie this knot about 20 times and only got it to pull down properly once. I'm using 65 pound braid.

@hackamore
you need to pull the tag end...with heavy braids 65-80 and higher everything needs to be symetrical before you cinch it down tight. Hope that helps out!

would this be a good knot for sub-10lb test flourocarbon or should I stick with the "single" palomar for light test flourocarbon? Thanks

@12309PanduraSt
I would stick to the single Palomar. I have had problems with both the double and single Palomar knots when fishing flourocarbon. I have gone to the Double San Diego Jam knot in all flouro applications. I have not had any problems with the jam not at all and highly recommend it.

My appologies if you cant see the video...Over 8,000 views and you have been the only person to have a problem viewing how to tie the knot ??

if i use mono should i tie the double palomar anyway?

Tie a "single" palomar with mono. Same knot but just do one loop.
