  • Good clip, wish I could see it all. It's really a pity that "Uncle Tom's Cabin" was considered offensive, since the book so vehemently condemned slavery, and it put African-Americans in a much more human light than other media of its time.

  • Thank you for posting something from this important film. Does anyone have access to the comoplete the complete film, and if so, could you post? thanks!

  • @LuvvyDuck The problem with the clip (and with Uncle Tom's character in general) is that it infantilized black people. The only way to gain sympathy from Whites to demonize the actions and perceptions they had towards Black people was to create a character that was docile and extremely kind (almost child-like) towards the people who had not yet given him any reason to be kind.

  • a perfect segue to the thigh massage video...

  • Saw this late last night on TCM. The ice river crossing footage is really amazing.

  • Google "Dr. Lewis Steiner" and see how blacks were in the Confederacy's Army!

  • @uncletomscabindvd Thank you! I'll check it out as soon as I can. :)

  • @LuvvyDuck This 1903 film was produced by Thomas Edison to promote his new motion pictures technology. It's just been released, at full length, as part of a DVD about Uncle Tom's Cabin. See my channel for clips.

  • This is a very sad scene ...

I read UTC in 7th grade; I want to read it again soon. It's been a very long time since they made a movie version - I can understand why, since the story shows so much painful racism.
