1. Mister Greenaway, your "Tales" is an experience of immersion in many sensations: what is your target?
What actually I said in the introduction I am very keen to make a 360 degrees cinema which also, because there is a lot of music in this, it should involve all body, so it should be a sensory experience, not just to the eyes not just to the ears.
2. But you mean, you think that this is the future of the main screens...
I said the thing... multiscreen thing is going to be here to stay, you can see it on CNN every evening, and is not just a situation that will remain on public television, it should become an aesthetic tool, as well, Godard, famous filmmaker, said, world is not just in front of you, it's all around you. So we should develop a cinema which is all around you
3. But in your world there is space for silence?
I think you can see, every night we gave you silence...
4. What you mean of the state of democracy in this moment?
I think it's very endangered. Mr Bush has proven that you cant force democracy in point of a gun. And many people have many different ideas about democracy. It's a very imperfect subject. We should not believe is heaven we should not believe is Nirvana, we should continuously question it, and by giving you all these quotations, is to give you a big view of the pluses and minuses, of positives and the negatives of the system which we all now believe, in fact, is a perfect system, but very imperfectly applied.
5. But creativity is the way to recreate the world?
If you think about it politics changes every afternoon as art goes on.

1) Come ho detto nell'introduzione sono molto contento di fare un cinema a 360 gradi che, visto che contiene molta musica, coinvolge tutto il corpo, così che diventa un'esperienza sensoriale, non solo per gli occhi o solo per le orecchie.
GN Ma intende, pensa che questo è il futuro della visualizzazione su schermi...
2) L'uso di schermi multipli è ormai uno strumento acquisito, lo si può vedere sulla CNN tutte le sere, non è solo qualcosa che rimarrà sulla televisione pubblica, dovrebbe diventare uno strumento estetico: come diceva Godard, il famoso regista, il mondo non è solo di fronte a te, è tutto intorno a te. E dunque dobbiamo sviluppare un cinema che sia tutto attorno a noi.
GN Ma nel suo mondo c'è spazio per il silenzio?
3) Penso che, come può notare, ogni sera qui vi abbiamo dato modo di percepire il silenzio [abbassando il tono di voce, ndr]
GN Cosa pensa dello stato della democrazia in questo momento?
4) Penso che sia molto in pericolo. Mr. Bush ci ha dato la prova che non si può imporre la democrazia con le armi. Molte persone hanno idee molto diverse sulla democrazia. Si tratta di un oggetto molto imperfetto. Non dovremmo credere che sia qualcosa dato una volta per tutte, dobbiamo sempre rimetterla in discussione. Dico questo perché voglio offrire una visione allargata dei pro e dei contro, delle cose positive e negative di questo sistema: nel quale noi ora crediamo intendendolo come un sistema perfetto, ma che è applicato molto imperfettamente.
GN Ma la creatività è il modo per ricreare il mondo?
5) Se ci pensa, la politica cambia ogni sera, mentre l'arte continua per la sua strada...
