  • Yep, the good old solid W202. I'm very pleased BMW drivers don't like the C class. Mercedes and BMW drivers are in different classes - fast, sporty, show off, throw it around driving = BMW, slow, laid back, elegant cruising = Mercedes - Benz. Clarkson hits the nail right on the head.

  • Best car!

  • @kernals12 I hear the quality is coming back and I welcome back. Mercedes still is the most influential car company in history. It was their technological breakthroughs which led the industry. I hope someday in my life to see Mercedes make a car as great as the 600 Grosser again. That was probably the highest quality car ever made.

  • @1bentley4ever actually it wasn't just on American models, and it's not the case anymore, you see, it wasn't just exchange rates that were the problem, German labor costs were rising and it meant that "overengineering" was too expensive, so that meant they had to cut costs, luckily Mercedes is now returning to its roots and quality is rising back to what it was during the glory days

  • @OZPerpetue

When do you think it will live up to the older models???

  • I bought a 94 us model c280 in 1999 and have driven it since. few material objects in this world could command so much love and faith as my trusty old friend of a car. I've got a c43 amg and still prefer my old c280. I've got 250,000 miles on each!

  • @amgjens True. At least on the American market models, the new C-class is chintzy and cheapy and plasticky. Mercedes seemed to do cost cutting to compete with the 3-series.

  • True but this doesn't apply to this mercedes. the 190 was very popular so ofcourse MB would make an effort to make its successor do well too

  • @amgjens My memory is a little rusty, but it seems like BMW is mass producing cars for such niche buyers they won't get a ton of sales. The X6, 5-series Gran Turismo are very unique but won't get as many buyers as the X5 and 5-series sedan.

  • @1bentley4ever What do you mean? almost all manufacturers (unless the exclusive makes) have cars in each price range.

  • @peugeotCitroen2CV This car was designed in the early 90s. euro ncap was established in 1997. there were different crash tests at the time the old c came out. Look at similar cars from it's time and you will see none got good ratings.

  • @tigrelle I think I can answer for him, after the chrysler acquisition everything went downside, for example the w203 was plagued with electronic problems and was pretty unreliable.

Now mercedes is getting better again, because it is no longer with chrysler, but it still doesn't live up to the old models.
