"Years ago a friend, who long since is gone, told this experience. He was seventeen-years-old and with his companion stopped at a cottage in the southern states. It was his first day in the mission field and was his first door. A gray-haired woman stood inside the screen and asked what they wanted. His companion nudged him to proceed. Frightened and somewhat tongue-tied, he finally blurted out, 'As man is God once was, and as God is man may become.'"Strangely enough, she was interested and asked where he got that. He answered, 'It's in the Bible.' She left the door for a moment, returned with her Bible. Commenting that she was a minister of a congregation, she handed it to him and said, 'Here, show me.'"He took the Bible and nervously thumbed back and forth through it. Finally he handed it back saying, 'Here, I can't find it. I'm not even sure that it's in there, and even if it is, I couldn't find it. I'm just a poor farm boy from out in Cache Valley in Utah. I haven't had much training. But I come from a family where we live the gospel of Jesus Christ. And it's done so much for our family that I've accepted a call to come on a mission for two years, at my own expense, to tell people how I feel about it.'"After half a century, he could not hold back the tears as he told me how she pushed open the door and said, 'Come in, my boy, I'd like to hear what you have to say.'"There is great power in this work, and the ordinary member of the Church, sustained by the Spirit, can do the work of the Lord."

Boyd K. Packer, "The Candle of the Lord," Ensign, Jan. 1983, 56

31243, Hymns, Oh, Holy Words of Truth and Love, no. 271

1. Oh, holy words of truth and love
We hear from day to day,
Revealed to Saints from God above,
To guide in heavens way.

[Chorus]
Beautiful words of love
Coming from God above,
How sweet, how dear the words we hear!
Theyre beautiful words of love.

2. Theyre from Apostles good and true,
Whose names we all revere,
Who daily teach us what to do
In words of love and cheer.

  • The Most Reverend John C. Wester, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City, also spoke. He was followed by the Salt Lake Scots Bagpipe Band performing Highland Cathedral and Amazing Grace. Members of the Sikh faith and Gnostics were part of the performance for the first time this year.

  • My beloved brothers and sisters across the world, I express my deep admiration for the faith and courage I see in your lives. We live in a most remarkable time—but a challenging time.

  • As you choose not to be offended or ashamed, you will feel His love and approval. You will know that you are becoming more like Him.

  • @MormonsLoveFamilies Yes, New Haven, Connecticut.

  • @omiolo Yale university, right?

  • Weber oversees the New Haven institute in Connecticut with 102 students, who vary from graduate students and Ph.D. candidates to those who aren't attending Yale. .

  • Since then, the school has officially recognized the institute. After a review by the Yale Religious Ministries group, Weber is the LDS chaplain to the Ivy League campus and meets regularly with other campus chaplains.

"It's been exciting to see those doors open for us," he said. Now, the institute is labeled on school maps, events can be advertised on campus and opportunities to share more about the LDS Church in a spirit of understanding have increased.

  • NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- When Stephen Weber walked into the Yale chaplain's office and introduced himself as the New Haven Institute of Religion director, she had a few questions.

"She said, 'Where have you been? We have been waiting for you,'" said Weber of the meeting held in June 2010. She also added that she had known several Mormon students. "It's rather interesting to have that kind of greeting."

  • @AlexanderRaccoon sounds like you are extremely uneducated and confused. Why doesn't that bother you?

  • Everything changed on a rainy afternoon visit to Rainbow Bridge in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. In a life-altering experience, Hilton was bathed in the love of her Father in Heaven and felt the truth of not only his existence but the existence of Jesus Christ as well. . .

  • @AlexanderRaccoon You are very missinformed. They have found and discovered a lot of historical and geological evidence towards the Book of Mormon.

How could you possibly know what language they were written in?

Look up the nahom grave site. Spoken of in 1 Nephi, and just recently discovered in 1994. Tell me, how could Joseph Smith possibly know about that?

Tell me how could Joseph Smith write in over 30 different distinct writing styles and have his own writing be so completely different?
