@DemisLian The problem is that this would not be appreciated in the US. The All-American girl has a fabulous tann and has bright blonde hair. Onegin would also be like Brad Pitt and not have ginger hair!

This is the Onegin all of us knew as children in the USSR, and cherished and adored! The scenery, the costumes, this angelic girl's face lip-synching Vishnevskaya's voice, even with all these "cuts" within the aria. There will never be another version like this 1959 one!

yes, of course, I've just commented.. The music in the opera is great, I've seen it live in theater ...

I agree, but still I think it's Tchaikovsky's opera we should talk about when we watch this video, and this is the best performance ever in my opinion.

its easier to watch video then read the book but I had to read it... and it's better..
btw this english translation is bad .. russian version is better.

Pushkin would very very proud.

I can but agree. The actress got a special prize for this role.

Outstanding!
Have the Russians do this and it's the best. Their novel, their composer, and their singers - so powerful. Thank you for posting this!

Bravo, what an outstanding film! The actors are so beautiful and give such a sublime and heartfelt interpretation of the characters' inner feelings. The background voicing is exceptional as well. Vishnevskaya's voice perfectly conveys Tatiana's vulnerability, hopefulness and dark apprehension - my favourite interpretation so far. Tchaikovsky would be proud!
