tbh, I don't think laymen can see it. Although it's hard to show his motivation for poking the deck than placing it in the deck. There must be a reason to execute anything that is out of line with natural movements.

I'm a Bannon fan, and it's a very good trick. The display of the cards being some up / some down is a really good convincer. Nicely done, thanks for posting the video
