Beautiful restoration! Note the curved one piece windshield..the rear window was made in three pieces because of the radical curvature of the glass for the time. Soon complicated windshields and back windows with compound curves would be molded in one piece. This car has, of course, the Rocket V8 and Hydramatic...very few would be equipped with manual transmission...shiftless motoring had already caught on!

  • Amazing. My Dad was an Olds man and I remember as a child all the talk of the Rocket V8. I got into them too but sadly this brand has passed. It's all Jap Crap now.

  • @forestgreen98 I'm glad this car brought back good memories. I have an ad from that period that shows not only the car, but the husband and wife on the back of a rocketship, rocketing somewhere to outer space! They sure were selling rocket V8 power! Thanks! :) Jack

  • My late father had one of this in mint green. It had a push button starter. The car lasted 10 years without problems, and he sold it because he wanted a newer modern style. What a great car. Thanks for posting.

  • @billace90 I'm so glad my video brought back pleasant memories for you...it's something I have always believed. Cars are a great memory trigger! Thanks!

    :) Jack

  • Hey Jack, this was a great car. I think these were some of the quickest cars of the day with that rocket V-8, setting off the horsepower war of the 50's. I like this one because it's a 2 door hardtop.

  • @MrLambFries Hey, Brian! They certainly were quick...Cadillac had a similar performer in their new OHV V8, and Hudson with its twin carbureted flathead 6 was a speed merchant! Olds was an overnight hit..and the Hydramatic didn't hurt it either! Thanks! :) Jack

  • @raconter1 I totally agree.

  • @Seattlecarnut Hey, Jason! Indeed, that's the best of both worlds...a light to get your attention, and a gauge for precise measurement. However, the "idiot" lights were really replacements for gauges...so many owners add supplemental gauges on their own..a great compromise in my book! The problem with gauges..how many actually look at them on a consistent basis...best paired with an overall warning light that indicates a system is amiss. Thanks! :) Jack

  • @raconter1 Idiot lights are fine if used with the gauges, but by themselves don't tell you how hot the engine is or how cold it is, etc. I love original and unrestored cars.

  • @Seattlecarnut Yeah, those "idiot lights" were strongly criticized when they started replacing oil pressure and amp gauges in the 50's. Gauges had been the standard before that. I don't know for sure, but I believe this car to be original unrestored. Thanks! :) Jack
