Sensational new girl band The Space Girls release their debut single, "I Wanna Be Famous" today on Space Records. In a stunning video the girls look set for stardom, beating aside the likes of Girls Aloud, Bananarama and the Nolan Sisters.

The Space Girls formed a month ago and were recruited by singer/songwriter Jessica Lee Morgan from the massive pool of talent that exists in Cardiff. "I met Vicky, Julie and Stephanie at the karaoke bar in town and thought they would make a great band. They've got the looks, talent and great voices too."

Jessica wrote "I Wanna Be Famous" for her debut album "I Am Not", but she felt she needed some support to promote it. "It's all about vocal bands these days, so I thought we could beat the best at their game."

Jessica's parents, Welsh songstress Mary Hopkin and record producer Tony Visconti, have both washed their hands of their daughter's blatant and desperate attempts at publicity. "When she goes back to singing proper songs we'll talk to her again," said Mary from her French chateau. However, brother Morgan Visconti produced the single and is happy for the girls, "as long as they keep their clothes on."

The girls have all ditched their jobs at the local fishmongers as they prepare to tour the UK, playing clubs up and down the country. Manager Simon Adams said "I've talked to the boss at the fish stall and he said he's happy to have them back if it doesn't work out."
