AMAZING...today as much as it was 39 years ago....Sham's rider starts whipping him like a Government mule coming around the turn and it didn't make an iota of difference...Big Red was in full cruise and Turcotte didnt' even touch him!

At 2:59 you can see Secretariat make the move to the outside and ine the next 1 1/2 furlongs he goes from the very back to neck and neck. It's amazing. You almost wonder what is wrong with the other horses because they seem to be standing still.

the move by secretariat before the clubhouse turn is the greatest move ever by a race horse. beyond belief really. then just past the 1/16 pole in the stretch, watch how the jockey turcotte pumps him with his arms. see how the horse responds to that. just pure beauty.

@musicology1999 Secretariat won the Preakness on my 12th birthday. I was truly blessed to see him win the Triple Crown in 1973. He was AWESOME!

The speed of Secretariat is just Unbelievable. Seeing him pull all the way from the back is just like he knew it was time to step on it. Amazing!

@oudsemaj There are a couple of clips where you can see him pulling on the bit and jumping. I can't tell you which ones right this minute. Just Check some of the other Preakness clips. I was looking for one that showed him and found it so I know it's on youtube somewhere. :)

Sham was one in a 100 thousand, but Secretariat was one in a million.

@oudsemaj cf1970 has an alternative video here that has camera on him as Turcotte just turns his wrist, pulls on right rein just meaning to take him to outside bec he felt horses were slowing a little. But Secretariat took off "like a flushed deer" as Bill Nack put in his fantastic biography. you ought to get copy and read descriptions of these 3 races, incredible, tension filled. The Belmont is 8 pages long ! description of Sham going into distress and Pincay not pushing him is painful.
