Puebla is located in the Puebla Valley, surrounded by volcanoes and snow-capped mountains, about 130 kilometres south-east of Mexico City. The city proper in 2005 had a population of 1.5 million people, while the metropolitan area had a population of 2.1 million, making it the fourth largest city in Mexico.

The historic center of the city still contains much Spanish Colonial architecture and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Of all the colonial buildings, the most impressive are without any doubt the Puebla Cathedral, which was built in a mixed neoclassical style; the gold-covered Rosario Chapel, in the nearby Iglesia de Santo Domingo is a dramatic example of Mexican baroque.

The pyramid of Cholula is the largest in the New World. Cholula is a city within the metropolitan area of Puebla and was one of the most important cities under the Aztec empire.

Puebla's food culture, known as Cocina Poblana, is popular all over Mexico. Puebla is considered the home of mole, a rich, spicy sauce containing chocolate, cinnamon and nuts, as well as different types of hot peppers. Served with chicken, mole has become the most renowned dish of Puebla's cuisine. Camote, sweet potatoes cooked in a stove are a traditional sweet. Rompope is a liquor based on egg yolk and vanilla, created many years ago by Puebla's nuns. Chiles en Nogada is a dish of stuffed chillies with meat, fruit, and topped with walnut sauce and pomegranate seeds; it's prepared only on special occasions. Other traditional sweets include the dulces de Santa Clara, crystallized fruits, and milk candies.

Puebla is one of the most beautiful cities in Mexico being named world's heritage by UNESCO's list in 1987, in recognition of its historical and artistic merit.

At KIOSK International College PUEBLA, we have found the living magic combined with the Spanish foundation in 1531 (first American city founded by Europeans). Built in the shadows of the snow-covered volcanoes Popocatepetl and Ixtaccihuatl where Aztec Gods and immaculacy temples remain proudly close to those in Egypt; surrounded by some of the most fertile agricultural land in central Mexico it has been a focal point for culture from pre-Hispanic times to the present modernity.

The immediate surroundings of Puebla are rich in vestiges of the Preclassic (1500 B.C.E. - 300 C.E.), Classic (300 C.E. 900 C.E.), and Postclassic (900 C.E. 1521 C.E.) periods of ancient Mesoamerican civilization, places worth visiting The town of Cholula, one of the oldest still-inhabited settlements in the New World, is justly famous for its great pyramid, the largest structure known in the ancient Americas. At the nearby site of Cacaxtla, extraordinary surviving murals show the blend of Mayan, and Central Mexican cultures in the region around 900 C.E. Though such smaller cities rose and fell, Cholula continued to play an important role as an economic and religious center well into the Postclassic era, when it formed part of the Aztec Empire.
Today, Puebla is a vibrant artistic, cultural, and business center. It is home to several important museums, including the magnificent pre-Hispanic and colonial collections of the Museo Amparo. The "Casa del Escritor", part of the Cities of Asylum Program of the International Parliament of Writers, welcomes yearly an internationally-recognized writer-in-residence and holds an extensive series of lectures and workshops open to all. The state-funded "Casa de Cultura" offers numerous workshops in the visual and performing arts. The city's "Sapos" district continues to attract artists and antique dealers.

And what to say about a great nightlife Puebla offers plenty of excitement, particularly along the Avenida Juárez and in Cholula, replete with restaurants, bars and night spots.
