Attract Mode Plus - Progear (Arcade)

This is the intro sequence (attract mode), plus the entire first two levels of my absolute favorite shooter, Progear (Progear No Arashi/Storm of Progia).

Progear was released as a Capcom System II (CPS-2) arcade board and is significant in several ways. Made by the legendary Japanese video game company Cave(including Joker Jun), this is one of the last true 2-D horizontal scrolling shooters...no polygons here, just beautiful hand drawn graphics, mesmerizing bullet patterns and jewel harvesting insanity! If you're a shooter fan, you simply can't miss a single second of this bullet-hell gameplay...and be sure to watch until the end to see the level 2 boss, Hakugei, one of my favorite shooter bosses of all time! (Special Note: The video showcased here is not me playing, but rather a Japanese shooter master whose name I do not know to give credit, otherwise I would for this masterful display of skill and jewel harvesting.)

This game was released in both the USA (blue board) and Japan (green board) as a CPS-2 arcade board only, although the USA release is far more rare and harder to find. However, I do prefer the Japanese version since it has the original sound effects still intact like character voices and dialog during play.

I have this game on MAME, but I do not understand the mechanics, how did you get so many jewels out of the bullets? and what does, the love/save/active stats of the gunner mean at the end?

I downloaded this and love it! But I noticed there are way more bullets coming at you in the first stage than in the one i have. I am guessing that the japanese version is set at a higher difficulty.
