[Please read] A whip-cracking review.

The focus: "Mrs. Emma Peel"—as impersonated, charismatically, by actress Diana Rigg in the (British) television series "The Avengers" between 1965 and 1968. Her partner in righting wrongs: "Mr. John Steed"—as portrayed, with durable élan, by actor Patrick Macnee.

Mrs. Emma Peel. She's the kind of heroine television producers more or less abandoned long ago: smart, beautiful, athletic, articulate, witty/quippy, caring, and capable.

Diana Rigg—later in her role of Tracy Di Vicenzo in the 007 film "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" (1969)—also played the kind of Bond Girl that Danjaq producers more or less deserted after "Goldeneye" (1995): mature and convincingly feminine, smart, beautiful, athletic, game and purposeful.

Diana Rigg was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1988 and a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in 1994.

Video dedicated to Diana. Your "Emma Peel"--just one movement among others in a symphony of varied artistic accomplishments spanning decades. Video tempo? In keeping with your style--Allegretto grazioso con brio.

  • Steed at 4:47 epic fail. Goes for the front trigger a second time...

  • @guitargirlUK

Thank you for this bit of information. My impression was that Mrs. Peel was a widow, but I missed the background story, and I always wondered...

  • 1st of all: lovely selection of cuts. Personally, I thought the "colour" seasons didn't quite match up to the B/W episodes.

Now, something I haven't read much comment on: Of course, I had a huge crush on Emma Peel and wanted to BE John Steed, BUT, aside from that, do people realize that the combination of humor and surrealism in The Avengers made it a ground-breaking show that the US would not get hip to until The Man from UNCLE, and Batman? Absurdity, and yet a human quality.

  • Diana Rigg was HOT.....whew....

  • 02:15 I love her laugh/smile

  • @GodStarRevisited69 Mr Peel was missing presumed dead after his plane disappeared in a jungle somewhere. He was eventually found to have survived, thus prompting Emma Peel's exit from the series.
