Parliament is currently debating on the propose amendments to the Act and is expected to pass and will come into force in March 2012.

Housing developers who are found guilty will not only be blacklisted by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government but will pay a fine of up to RM500,000 and/or a maximum three years jail sentence.

According to the Ministry of Housing and Local Government records, there are one hundred and sixty eight cases of abandoned housing project in the country of which eighty three cases have been revived as of Oct 31, 2011 benefiting some nine thousand two hundred and seventy eight affected house buyers.

Since 2007, one thousand three hundred and eight developers and four thousand seven hundred and thirty company directors have been blacklisted by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government for committing various offenses under the Housing Development (Control and Licensing) Act 1966.
