oh, and in case you care (probably not) I practice a specific kind of sword technique you may have hear of. It’s called Bottojutsu. And though I am not quite sure if the teach it in kendo or kenjutsu, the type of bottojutsu I practice is nothing like the bottojutsu they teach. (I have heard rumors of it being taught, but a lot of people say no, so I don’t know). I also learned two techniques you may know: Furanui and Shiranui-Ryu. Have you heard of those?
@KihonNitchenichiRyu and @Vince38cyrious2 it is nice to see you two are one bickering. And I must ask, do you study Kendo, Kenjutsu, or this modern ay kenjustsu, which is to “light” in my opinion? After all there is a difference. As Kendo is “the way of the sword” and is a more spiritual path, whereas TRUE kenjutsu is “The art of Killing” and the modern day Kenjutsu doesn’t even compare to kenjustsu during the Bakumatsu. Just curious.
@KihonNitenIchiRyu The colour of the ito doesn't really matter for me as long as it is a good quality cotton and doesn't show the sweat stains to easliy. But I have to agree Cotton gives a WAY better Grip and secure feeling.
@KihonNitenIchiRyu I own 4 Japanese Style swords 1 cheness Kaze-kokatana Differentially hardened Nice and Tight Ito. 1 bujinkan katana 24 inch blade/14 inch tsuka differentially hardened Super tight Ito. 1 cas hanwei Tactical wakizashi 5160 spring steel Through hardened ( Not really happy with the craton rubber grip it feels to small and slippery) I have big hands and my first katana 1 cheap unbranded $140 Through hardened blade slightly loose Ito and the tsuka cracked.
@vince38curious2 as for the helicopter of demise, as long as your sword is pegged tightly and the tsuka is TIGHT, you wont lose the blade while swinging it. Personally, i perfer to work with a katate-maki.. black cotton is easier to grip than silk , and leather creates blisters. Oddly enough everyone seems to be the authority on swords, What kind of blade do you have? can i see it? upload pics of it.
anyone doing sword practice should know to check the tsuka before doing anything.
@vince38curious2 your comments are wasted. i can do it without the clamps, kiddo, i been doing it for over 20 years off and on, so yes, loose wrap is a pain in the ass, but this guy knows more about what he's doing than you do. this is pavel bolf, very famous guy, and he made the blade that he's fitting. i'd say he knows what he's doing, and if it's loose it's because theres no shitodome in the kashira. i didn't like seeing the cap wrapped over, and the ink was a bad plan, but bolf did it. k?
@KihonNitenIchiRyu Occupation:Teacher and Practitioner of Japanese Kenjutsu, Owner operator of the Fraser Valley Indoor Fiream club This is From your channel so if you are infact a "Teacher and Practitioner of Japanese Kenjutsu" Then you of all people should Know just how important a tight Ito wrap really is. Not just from a quality stand point But Also from a Safety stand point The last thing you want is a tsuka breaking free and a sharp 2 or 3 foot blade flying around the dojo.
@KihonNitenIchiRyu Just so you understand I have made serveral attempts at making the tsuka wrap The first time I did it This way and it turned out to be Rediculiously Loose The next attempt and every time since I have used clamps to hold the Ito Tight after every turn and Guess what I was right When I said you have to pull it Super Tight and Clamp as you go Otherwise It Will end up loose and the tsuka will crack Every Single time with a LOOSE wrap. So fuck Off Smart ass.
it isn`t old style katana?
