Step by step guide to repairing circuit boards

Yes, I know, my hands are shaky.
I didn't say it in the video, but the epoxy doesn't have to be Super Glue brand. There are several different brands of 2 part plastic bonder epoxy. Any of them will do. Of course make sure the power is removed and all capacitors are discharged.

  • wht else can we use if we dont have solder

  • @5478926 There is no substitute. It must be electronic grade solder. It's cheap and available in most hardware stores. Make sure you don't get "acid core" or "solid core" solder, as they're meant for plumbing and will corrode the circuit board. (or just plain won't stick as in the case of the solid core)

Some rosin based flux on the board where you're soldering will make the soldering easier.

Oh and use a soldering iron.

  • I have an area on a circuit board that had some sparks, and the coating came of on an edge containing two largish transistors. I removed the transistors, and will be replacing those, but is there a coating repair stuff i can get for the board? it looks like the traces (on the other side) seem to be OK and intact.

  • @whisperingsage The best thing is to make sure everything is clean and shiny and apply a good coat of paint, preferably something oil based.

  • so what are the tools that i need?? and where can i get them?

  • @kenduru You need epoxy, solder, wires, an "exacto" knife and a soldering iron. You can find them at most any hardware store.

  • hey, very useful video. Thanks so much. I never knew how to repair these things, this'll save me ordering a VHS universal remote. (Wish I'd watched this video before I purchased a replacement on ebay for my other cracked DVD remote.)
