News Executive/Host Tim Russert (1950-2008) speaks about his early years growing up in Buffalo, NY and his decision to go to law school. He then spoke about joining NBC News in 1984 as vice president -- working very closely with his mentor, NBC president Lawrence Grossman. In 1988, he became the Washington, D.C. Bureau Chief of NBC News and in 1991 he joined Meet the Press as its moderator. He spoke about his meeting with Meet the Press co-creator Lawrence Spivak and outlined his philosophy for moderating a news interview show. He also spoke about what he considered the biggest news story of his career to-date, the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on America.

  • Mr. Russert's character was formed by his strong and faithful Catholic upbringing. He was a loyal and faithful son of the Church, and a great example of how a man should carry himself. God Bless Mr. Russert!

  • What a treasure this is. Thanks. Wonderful man. Horrible loss.

  • I had a dream a couple of hours ago that I was in some kind of a multi-story parking garage and I was on my stomach moving along on some type of big hydraulic pistons and was getting pinched in 'em when Tim Russert turn around and cut off the power. This can only mean one thing, H. My 56th birthday coming up on the 28th in a few days might not be realized. Oh well, I just hope my cat gets a good home with a kind person looking after her. As far as my life and the world goes? Pretty much sucked.

  • I miss Tim Russert. I still remembering hearing of his passing. I couldn't believe it.

My Sunday AMs have not been the same since.

  • You can tell when someone has substance.

  • I'm glad they managed to do this while he was still with us. I can continue to learn about him even after he's gone.

  • Happy Birthday, Tim....wherever you are

  • Man is he missed, especially today.

  • I am an ABC News watcher but I truly shed a tear for Mr. Russert. He was passionate for his work.

  • Larry Spivak's chair is suddenly much larger. When I was a child two news people called the tune. Larry Spivak who was a conservative and you never knew it and Walter Cronkite who was a Texas Democrat and you never knew it.

If it is Sunday it is MTP
