Who non-metalhead dare to admit you at least mainly watched this video because of Anette Olzon?
-
HOLY SHIT... This, is just... wow.
-
@WorpeX It could be argued that Fields of the Nephilim were the offical "goth" band but PL and MDB were certainly my first exposure to this genre. At any rate, I'm not in the buisness of correcting anyone about it. I listen to it and enjoy it.
Great song and video here!

I cryed... so beautiful...

@WorpeX I meant more modern gothic metal like Tristania or ToT, or at least that's my experience. Metal is a pretty subjective thing, so many arguments about subgenres. Not my intention.

This is a great work of art!

@crimrose All you have to do is go to wikipedia and type in "Gothic Metal" and you'd quickly see that you're incorrect. It was not at all founded on the "beauty and the beast" vocals at all. Theatre of Tragedy coined it after bands like Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride originated the genre.
-
In fact, the whole gothic metal genre was pretty much founded on the idea of "beauty and the beast" vocals like these - growls or rough male vocals, combined with soft, soprano female vocals. Just look at the Liv Kristine-era of Theatre of Tragedy!
-
And the people complaining about the growls - you've obviously never heard any doom/gothic/death metal before at all. :)
It all has growls, they definitely add a certain something to this type of music. Sure, growls don't fit as well in Nightwish (where Anette usually sings), but Nightwish is symphonic metal, not gothic/doom/death, so it doesn't make as much sense. (NW used to have growls, though...)
Thumbs up If you like the double-bass at 3:55.
