He learned it from the "locals" in western North Carolina, and recorded it for the Library of Congress and never took credit for the songs he recorded, so there isn't any telling how old this song is or who wrote any of it. Very strange to come across this by accident, I had no clue it was such an old song I first heard Nick Drake's version called 'Kimbie', which he covered from Jackson C. Frank, I really thought Frank wrote it, Lunsford tells me otherwise. Great music though. Thanks for posting.
