http://www.realkungfusansoo.com/store.htm The forms that were taught in Kung Fu San Soo by Jimmy H. Woo consisted mainly of 19 move sets. Each 19 move set would be called an individual base. Also a 6 move introduction was placed at the beginning of each base. These 6 moves were called (Jong How). A salute to close the form would bring it to 26 moves. This is why you will find the 26 move form sets in most 1st generation master's notes as well as in Master Carl Lorenzen's black belt instructor's manuals. These short form bases are only small portions of the much larger (360 move) one year forms taught in China. Seventeen bases are connected together to construct a single one year form. In China there year several of these one year form sets. A five base form is also only a portion of a one year form. Jimmy H. Woo shared these concepts with some of his students and taught form base sequences. He also showed how to link (5 base forms) together. This was to help us understand base transitions, progressive pivots, hopping, spinning and long/short range transitions. Because the Fut'ga lessons were taken directly from the forms, you see these principles applied repeatedly as you see the bases applied in techniques. To see more details on the subject, go to www.realkungfusansoo.com and look for the list of instructional video DVDs that include the 5 base form and many other lessons. Any other questions, please email me at the website. http://www.realkungfusansoo.com/store.htm

Master Mark Colby

  • Will spend more time and bring moyer of this to the San Soo community. Great stuff. Master Gary Sims

  • @sansoodude Thanks Gary, We met years ago at some of the associations seminars. I hope all is well with you.

    Take care,

    Mark

  • Is there anyone within the San Soo community that knows an entire authentic 360 movement year form or indeed teaches it ?.

  • My instructor told me that Jimmy Woo did not show him an entire one year form. In October of 1995 Carl Lorenzen shared some insights about the form bases to the San Soo community at the Vista, Ca. IKFSSA Balck Belt Retreat. Many of those who spoke to me that weekend had never heard of a 5 base form, let alone a one year form. They asked me if I had ever done a 5 base form. The Black Belt Books have two of them documented within. I have never heard of anyone other than Carl ever speak of them.

  • Sifu, who taught you KFSS in the beginning and when?

  • @jeffsor47, I studied under Master Carl Lorenzen for about 20 years. Carl studied under Jimmy Woo also for about 20 years. Jimmy taught Carl privately in his garage for about 8 years. In that time, Carl wrote "The Black Belt Books" and gave them back to Jimmy Woo for the association. Jimmy shared many things with Carl. Many of those things other people did not receive. The relationship of forms to Fut'ga lessons to Dap'ga, form base, use of each form with various weapons based on principle etc.
