  • Second question, if I'm if the woods and stuck... I probably will not have a spoon knife, is there a technique for carving the spoon end without one?

Maybe burning the end and digging out or something...

  • @MarcoMontana22

I have seen two friends of mine do the bowl with the bow drill. The burn the bowl first and then carve the spoon. Otherwise use a coal from the fire to burn the bowl.

  • Does it matter if you use fresh wood? and are there any dangers of sap poisoning?

Should you dry the spoon out before using etc...

  • @MarcoMontana22

Green wood is easier to carve but there is a risk of it splitting. Spoons dont generally split in my experience. As for the sap, if you use safe wood, like hazel, beech, birch, pine, ash, plus many others then you have no concerns. Yew, Laburnum and laurel have poisonous sap so you will nee to be careful with these.

  • what is the name of that type of knife? i am trying to acquire one but i cant seem to find the name... :/

  • @Mrgunman1955

The curved knife is a Frosts Spoon Knife. They are available all over the internet. Look at most of the bushcraft stores and they will stock it.
