40 Gallon Mbuna (Lake Malawi African Cichlid) Tank

These fish are a colorful mixture of the best Malawi's that I could find in the area... some are ordered online and traded for as well as purchased from Petco and Petsmart. There are also 3 upside catfish (small, but still synodontis). They have real sand substrate with a few pebbles here and there, and big piles of zebra rock for caves. There are also 2 thriving anubias plants in there (I think they're asian). I tried to make their aquarium as biotopic as possible. I have a 70 gallon penguin double biowheel on there as well because they are very touchy fish.

Heh no, I just buried the pillars in the sand and carefully balanced the others... I can't attach them because I need to re-arrange regularly.

@boomlightsout Mbunas need a pretty high concentration of tankmates to spread out the aggression. I'm actually 2 fish under the limit that I researched for my tank . I do help the new additions by making sure they are of equal size and restructuring the rock caves so that the fight for territory is apread out evenly and not focused on the new fish. I try to keep more females than males as well, but it's tough to find the varients that I want in the sex that I want sometimes.

Looks like a dominant male Malawian Pseudotropheus. They're beautiful fish. I have three in my tank right now. I was completely lucky to have found a male and two females. they get along really well. However, this breed is usually kept in larger groups of 6 or more in order to prevent fighting. Strong character, not easily pushed around. they dart all over the tank, if given a big enough playground. I have my 3 in an 85gallon tank with bogwood and rocky hideouts.

I'm really interested in the cichlid that's black with glowing blue stripes- the one at the top right around 0:09.

What species is it?
