If you have an extra monitor put it to good use and extend your desktop real-estate - this is especially beneficial if you use lots of windows at the same time.

In this video I show you how to take advantage of your second monitor by using the dual monitor capability of your Nvidia video card in Ubuntu. I also show you a couple of ways you can improve the image output of your monitor.

  • Another good one amzerthech! Quick question. Do you know anything about "Sync to VBlank" and "Allow Flipping" settings in the Nvidia X server settings? I've looked up what they are, but I didn't understand it. If you know what these do, can you share it with me in layman's terms? Thanks man.

  • Sync to Vblank will help prevent textures from tearing in 3d graphics. flipping activate a "Ship" (might be part of the GPU) on your video card that makes transfering large amounts of data (textures) between memory very fast.

    Hope that helped. Thanks :)

  • If anyone can tell me the simple way to RESTART the X server, i swear to god i will give you 1 million dollars, or at least a VERY big hug, because there is no restart button or anything!!!???

  • The current settings cannot be completely applied due to one or more of the following reasons:

The location of an X screen has changed.

The location type of an X screen has changed.

The color depth of an X screen has changed.

An X screen has been added or removed.

    Xinerama is being enabled/disabled

For all the requested settings to take effect, you must save the configuration to the X config file and RESTART the X server!!!

Now this suck because, HOW THE H*** DO YOU RESTART THE X SERVER???

  • Okay so i'm a newbie at Ubuntu and i am just starting to try it out for the first time in my life... Now i just got the Nvidia X server settings working on the Ubuntu 11.10 OS, but everytime i go in to the X Server settings and try setting up multiple screens, it works until i click the apply button. Then this text shows:
