For the impatient viewers - videos of test flights (of the prototype) start at around 4th minute.
It's not a UFO but actual aircraft that has been designed in the early 1990's in Russia. This video is freely available for download from the aircraft designer's web site:
http://www.ekip-aviation-concern.com/

The latest news that I could find on the subject date back to 2003-2004 when the U.S. Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) was going to co-partner further developments and building of this aircraft. Apparently the test flights were tentatively scheduled for 2007 at Webster Field, near Patuxent River.

P.S. When watching this clip, one has to realise that it was shot in early 1990's on less than a shoe-string budget in order to attract foreign investors to the project that lost its funding due to the collapse of Soviet Union and subsequent turmoil in the country. So quality of graphics is not the best :)

  • You russians are full of it. If this was something special you wouldn't be speaking english in your presentation.

  • It's a Flying Turd

  • Russian mafia you kill kill

  • the most easy thing is to build new crafts doing small increments... that is what the airspace industry does, that is what the automotive industry does and so on... nobody wants to invest in brand new technologies as was the case up to WWII (and for military and space up to the 1970s). Technologies there exist plenty.. it is the political will that does not exist.

  • @sphericalwjr08800 The "problem" is multidimensional. To manufacture such an aircraft the existing airplane manufacturers need to redesign competely not only their manufacturing facilities but also their processes and pretty much everything. And they are not ready to do that to produce aircrafts that will put as many as 4 times the current capacity of the largest plane.

Moreover, ""problems""" arise when this craft can land and take off pretty much everywhere.... no need for airports? Hmm..!!

  • hmm...

last i heard about this craft...

    was in like..

    1997...

and it was said that it would be "auctioned off to the highest bidder"

So who do we think was the highest bidder?

  • An amazing craft that's been virtually unheard of since the introduction in 2008, which is when you posted this video! Have you heard anything more about the future of this magnificent craft???Please restore my faith and tell me that this is now available to the public or as a do-it yourself kit for the masses???

Please make this craft available to the masses as a smaller private craft!

Thank you for posting this wonderful full-length version, that hasn't been presented to the Internet before!

  • is that a joke?

  • looks as if the russians have perfected "lifting body" technology!

  • THIS IS REMOTE CONTROL FOLLY.
