Its not a joke. Go look at most other schools' athletic facilities. If we want to stay competitive in athletics, we need these facilities. Many of our current facilities are hardly "more than adequate". I've seen many of the facilities around the big ten. Ours (before the construction) are pretty bad. I'm not saying academics don't need donations, but these facilities are pretty important.
Maybe they are not the best in the country, but they are more than adequate. We don't need a 55 million dollar addition to our stadium to draw fans to games; we need a winning team. We did well 2007 without the addition...
Think of the the world class teacher, researchers, and students that would be drawn to Bloomington with even $15 million directed into academic programs.

Students live in dorms that were built in the 60s, we eat crappy, unhealthy food and pay a premium price for it.
