you can tell whos comfortable in the water and whos not in seconds just by their kick.
"The Running Diver" kick is classic newbie.

it's a frame of mind when you're down there, the wrong one can be fatal

@Sargethepyromaniac Everything depends on the depth, 10 m (>30 ft) not much of a problem. Obviously there will be a problem if the boat is right above. Otherwise my experience has been that the newbie start feeling better when ascending, and few times in the surface they said "I couldn't explain you the problem"... certainly :)

@leonidasperez Inflating the BCD can cause a runaway ascent, and if the panicking diver doesn't control it it can lead to a lot of problems.

This situation is not that rare, yes this happens with newbies, but it happened as well with veteran divers who didn't dove in a while and suddenly have an hyperventilation or suffocation or who knows. That's why is VERY important,as scuba guide, make an interview before the actual dive and a safety check when a person hasn't dive in a couple of years. Checking people and gear at ~8 m (25 ft) is a good idea, if anything happen inflate the BCD and the guy will be in the surface in no time. :)

well, it is so difficult to do something in this situation.much better to prevent. a simply well traind rescue diver or better divemaster can recognize a stressed diver before the dive begins.but offcourse this things can be learned only working, book and courses are rather useless

yes fightsharkfishing24 but there are good scuba accident sites on the web too. try the myscubastory site. They have all sorts of dive stories and accident videos there. type myscubasory into google and its the first one. enjoy
fake or not?

@TheBubbler12 Of course it is true. If the diver had risen to the surface would have been an accident. Thanks to my partner saw and helped the diver. He went down quickly and without compensating the pain originated in the ears that kind of panic.
