On April 9, 2011 the Institute of Museum Ethics (Seton Hall University) in partnership with the Institute for Ethical Leadership (Rutgers University-Newark) held a conference on Museums, Ethics, and the Press.
The conference examined the controversy surrounding the National Portrait Gallery exhibition, "Hide/Seek: Difference and Desire in American Portraiture", highlighted the ethical issues involved, discussed the role of the media (print and internet) in this controversy and in other instances where museums' ethical practices are interrogated, and explored related issues including artists' rights.
