DES MOINES - During a delay for a point of order in debate on H.F. 525 to restrict collective bargaining, House Republicans were caught off guard by a live microphone discussing House Study Bill 219 which would allow Iowans to carry a concealed weapon without a permit.

The Des Moines Register has published a transcript of the conversation between the House Republicans:

Rep. Dave Deyoe, R-Nevada, explains the problem.

Rep. Jeff Kaufmann, R-Wilton: I bet nobody's told poor Jorgenson.

Rep. Steve Lukan, R-New Vienna: I told him this is all his own fault.

Kaufmann: Tell him it's his fault and we don't appreciate anything that he's done up to this point.

Lukan: Damnit, Ron, we're going to yank you off this bill.

Kaufmann: Ya, the hell with you. You haven't been doing jack s—.

Rep. Erik Helland, R-Johnston: What?

Kaufmann: Jorgenson, we're yanking him off the bill. The hell with him. He hasn't been doing anything.

Lukan: He should have seen this coming.

Helland: You know what that means? It means I'm going to end up stuck with the bill?

Kaufmann: Sounds like you're getting out of the Alaska bill.

Helland: Oh yeah, I'm getting out of it after I end up on a blog.

Lukan: The Alaska bill -- what's the Alaska bill?

Helland. I'm the dirty hatchet man for the caucus. Something nobody wants to do. Some dirty, nasty job. I'm the one who gets dropped in you know why, 'cause I'm expendable.

Kaufmann: The crazy, give-a-handgun-to-a-schizophrenic bill.

  • Maybe the Wisconsin Republicans and the Iowa Republicans can open a Bed and Breakfast in Des Moines after they're all voted out. The Iowa Republicans are sponsoring this bill! Clearly, like their Wisconsin counterparts, the don't care about the people of their state, but only the national groups that give them tons of cash, and cushy jobs once they've dismantled their state's government.

  • Well, if you'd actually had reviewed Amendment 2, Section 3, Paragraph 11 - you would have clearly seen it states:

"We luvs 'em our guns, and wants to make sure even the CRAZIES/TEABAGGERS gets to carry 'em ... even those automatic ones with clips in the hundreds! That's 'cause we luvs 'em our guns."

  • stupid fuckers

  • @55SwampFox just keep telling yourself that

  • These are punch drunk and very tired guys being goofy and sarcastic in some spare time for crying out loud. Have you never made fun of circumstances just to kill time or when you felt like quiting for a while but couldn't? I don't think many poloticians, from either party, are above what's being suggested here but that's not what's going on in this clip, imho

  • lol guyz don't ever change! shameless!!!

  • Absolutely hilarious. When you get to the state-level, politicians are clearly not as polished. We hardly knew ye buddy, but I guess we'll see you again come election ad-time in '12.

  • @thucy2 Sorry, the word "gun" is not on the tape.

  • "...hey, this microphone is on...oh, s***!" LOL priceless.
