Well, this is the last of this set of video episodes completing my first run at a veneering project. The panel turned out great and I am looking forward to exploring other wood species. This was a lot of fun.

Trust me, if I can do this right out of the gates, anyone can!

Thanks again to Neil Lamens at Furnitology Productions and JoeWoodworker.com

Finally the vacuum press is loaded! The panel turned out great - looking forward to the next project.

  • Joe -

I have used both solid platens above and below, as well as, breather mesh only on top. Either approach is effective. If using platens, I usually make them up out of MDF with wax paper.

  • Sam, make sure you have a good even application of glue on the substrate and use an appropriately sized platen (either wax paper covered MDF or breather mesh).

I use MDF platens covered with wax paper or butcher paper (plastic coating facing out) or sheets of breather mesh with my vacuum press.

  • are you using a platen? both the top and bottom? If so what kind or material, i find a sold platen works well on the bottom and a mesh platen is idea for the top.

  • i tried this.. but then i do veeneer pasting some times the veeneer bubbles usually where the grains are.

i have a fairly strong vacuum pump.

    any suggestions?
