Interesting, would i think have a weird mag field, either way, a much cheaper form of toroid, maybe better if could make the steel wire insulated i.e. each strand, aint sure what it would do but I is thinkning along them lines coz of ur idea, nice one
Very interesting design Mars...if the wire you use as a core is soft iron, you just might have some sort of transformer there (if you add another wire on top of it, that is). I wonder what the pattern of the magnetic field looks like...
cool, i did some experiments with the same type of windings, however, i just used a copper core and sent a pulse through it.. it works well. I posted a video response. thanks for posting, keep up the interesting work!

What material do you use (Iron core with copper wire) ?
The release effect for an Orbo-Motor should be any better with
a ferrite material (more flux inside and easier to saturate).
