A video by Scott Cannon http://gdacoalition.org On July 31st, 2011, a group of Democrat and Republican community leaders boarded a bus to travel an hour north to see, hear, and feel the negative effects of gas drilling.

This is the tour the gas companies don't want you to see.

Sure, there are a few millionaires made from gas drilling, but for every millionaire, there are countless other who are lied to, have their rights stripped away, and are inconvenienced beyond reason, all for the sake of a "bridge" fossil fuel that will eventually run out.

We encourage everyone to take a trip through gasland. Talk to people, notice the traffic, look at the once beautiful landscape, and ask yourself, "Is this what I want? Is this what I want for my children and grandchildren?"

  • @calipatriots I'd like to invite you to Evans City, Pennsylvania. Come enjoy a nice tall glass of black water from a number of our fine residents. Don't mind the oily taste. That just means it's working.

  • @vampgirl69101 I want you to know, that with the passage of HB 1950, the DEP can now grant drilling permits when the gas drilling company is in violation of laws elsewhere in the state. It also takes zoning laws out of local municipalities hands. That pretty much means whichever company is the highest bidder can frack where they please. I'd love it if we still had the right to be cautious who we deal with. Unfortunately, our governor has stripped us of that right.

  • @vampgirl69101 Where the hell are you living? Has to be around the Philly area somewhere...prices here in Western Pa are nowhere near that high. We rent a 3 bedroom house for $750, and it is in very good shape. Please don't make sweeping judgement towards the entire state just b/c you have a shitty landlord. We have values too, btw. One of those values is wanting to be able to drink our water.

  • @vampgirl69101 You are basing this off of what is happening in Texas. That is not really comparable to what is happening in the Marcellus Shale area. I can't remember the exact numbers, but to drill the shale in Texas, they go well below the water table (14k feet...something like that). Up here the depth is considerably lower (2-3k feet I believe). Obviously that means it is much closer to the water table. You said a lot of things here, but all I know is, we never had black water b4 fracking.

  • @washingtonemt You know what, go live next to a well. Have black water coming out of your faucet. See how much you love it then. I fully understand that drilling for natural gas is essential, but it is not being done safely. If it were, myself, and others in my community would not have black water coming out of their faucet, and some have black sludge running down their yards and into streams. If you love it so much, come here and drink our black water. Moron.

  • @lakona321 *cont.* As to how you can help, just try to make the issue known as much as you can. If you still have family here, inform them of what is going on. The new HB 1950 bill has given the gas companies complete zoning rights. It has also made it so the DEP can grant drilling permits when the gas drilling company is in violation of laws elsewhere in the state. Also, drillers only have to replace, not clean up, private and public water supplies that they contaminate. We need more voices.

  • @lakona321 I live in W. PA (35 mins N of Pitts.), about a year ago (well after fracking began right behind our house), our water was contaminated. It was coming out black. We were provided with a water buffalo, and after nearly a year of testing, they dug a new well. The water reeks like sulfur. We use it only for bathing and flushing. I live 300 ft. from a pipeline, and maybe 1000 feet from a well. At least 12 streams in our area have been contaminated with black chemical mud recently.

  • @lakona321 Right, because I'm sure you know what we're going through. We are mad, we are fighting. You are the pathetic one thinking you know how difficult this has been for people all over the state...and it just got worse with the passage of HB 1950.

  • Im surprised how little media this catastrophy gets. Its funny how dick chaney was the CEO of HALIBURTH which is a GAS COMPANY then he was elected. After being elected he did anything to benifit the GAS companys?

  • When you get to the point your moving out of your home its war, these people are better then me, id be in jail or on the run. At some point someones going to crack, and those that frac are going to get shot at
