@bluejeckett
Bligh wasnt the tyrant history has tarred him. Fletcher...........good man originally but corrupted by the hedonism of Tahiti life. However, if i was an 18th century seaman - I think Tahiti would have corrupted me too! LOL
Thanks for the reply

Vengelis was also used for Chariots of Fire and nobody complained about that despite the film being set in the 20s
This film to me is very much a mood piece, Anthony Hopkins easily carries his own but I agree Mels acting was bad mainly cos ge was a poor choice for mastering an upper class english accent when he was an american born australian, always going to be a tough ask

I understand what people are saying about how modern music can clash with period pieces BUT if its done well enough and the song is memeorbale enough it can be acceptable. I dont have any problem with just mood music, its more pop music that can ruin the film, A Knights Tale was an example of pop music (Queen) being used to ridiculous effect for a film set in medieval times, that didnt workm this does cos it doesnt impose as a song signature of any particualr year even if it synthetics

@ToonandBBfan there have been a few in the 40s 50s and 60s, they tend to focsu on the older belief that Fletcher wasnt much more than a criminal though, this seems to still remain the definitive version to date as it shows Fletchers side as well as Blighs

@Scifimaster92 (Cont.) I really wish to avoid a flame war here, so this will be the last time I explain my side of the argument.

@ThePhantom135 Okay, maybe the soundtrack didn't match the time period in which the film is set, but it at least matched the mood of the film itself. That's why I personally find it so effective. The same argument has sometimes been made about Tangerine Dream's soundtrack for "The Keep" in 1983 - it didn't match the film's historical setting (in this case, WW2) but it did match the mood of the film, and therefore succeeded in its goal.
